Marriage will be the first time that some women experience healthy relationships. Because of that Hollywood film executive and preacher DeVon Franklin is calling for men to help their wives heal by serving them.
“By the time most women get to marriage, they’ve had to endure countless amounts of sexual, physical, emotional, and spiritual abuse at the hands of men,” Franklin said in Mentor a mail message sent to his subscribers . “So marriage might be the first time in their life where they have the opportunity to heal from this abuse.”
In the past, society has placed an emphasis on women being servants for their husbands. Franklin, the husband of actress, producer and budding director Meagan Good, revealed how beneficial it would be for men to learn to serve their wives.
“It’s important for husbands to be understanding and help create an environment in the marriage that can contribute to their wife’s healing. One of the most effective ways to do this is through the power of service,” he wrote. “So much of what we are taught about marriage is how the woman should serve the man, but a man’s marriage will go to the next level and healing can be fostered when men learn to serve their wives.”
The bestselling author gave men an idea of how they can begin to become servants in their households.
“Get to know her wants and needs, her likes and dislikes, her passions and pleasures. Then do everything in your power to serve those,” he said. “The more a husband serves his wife, the more healing will take place. Why? Because many women have been taught love on a conditional basis.”
Over time, Franklin said a lot of women have come to view love through the lens of what they can do for their husbands.
“How many times have you heard the saying ‘The way to man’s heart is through his stomach?’ Now, we all laugh when we hear that, but what gets ingrained in women’s psyche is ‘in order for me to have love, I must do,’” he explained. “The ‘doing’ is then perceived as a condition to the receiving of love. So when a wife is served and it’s not conditional, it’s a powerful way for a husband to set the tone and make the healing of his wife a priority. The master leads by love and service.”
Franklin is helping both men and women heal in his new book, The Truth About Men which is currently available for pre-sale orders.
