“The Lord assigned my portion and my cup. You maintain my lot secure.” ~PSALM 16:5 WMB

In our journeys in our creativity, the pursuits of our dreams and just in life in general, I can’t think of a Word that brings more peace than Psalm 16:5. Stepping out in faith to take hold of what Christ Jesus has purposed in our hearts is an adventure, but it can also be a point of stress if we aren’t secure in the promises of His Word.

First, let’s be reminded that the Word is Christ (JOHN 1: 1,14), that He is the Truth (JOHN 14:6) and there is no falsehood in Him (I PETER 2:22). So when we read a promise, all of which are yes and amen in Him (II COR. 1:20) and in the Word, we are reading or seeing into the Perfect Person of Who He is.

We can count it as ours for He is ours just as we are His (SONG OF SONGS 6:3)!

Another translation of Psalm 16:5 says, “LordYou are the portion of my inheritance and my cup; You maintain my lot.”*

Christ is our portion or best part of all that we can inherit in this life. In our steps toward destiny, in our acts of claiming our ‘mountains,’ we need to remember that Christ is the best inheritance that we can receive and take hold of.

But what else is Psalm 16:5 saying?

WHAT IS YOURS IS YOURS

You can rest secure, as the verse tells us, knowing that what God has purposed for us is ours and it cannot be taken away from us.

Will there be the necessary effort on our part to possess it? Sure, but that struggle brings great blessings of perseverance, patience, purity, etc. It develops Godly character in us that proves to us before we take possession of that which we are pursuing that Christ is indeed the best part of our inheritance because it’s in the struggle that we are drawn closer to Him.

Proverbs 20:21 tells us that an inheritance swiftly gained is not blessed. No struggle means there isn’t the chance to see the truth of Christ Jesus on a newer level.

YOU DON’T HAVE TO COMPETE WITH OTHERS FOR YOUR INHERITANCE

The Lord has assigned each of us our blessing and inheritance and it is tailor cut to fit us and us alone. There is no need to compete with anyone for what is yours. Your portion has your name on it and your Heavenly Father has secured it for you.

Your inheritance is secure!
