Ruth Hillard of Halifax of Weldon, N.C. has been living for over ten decades, turning 106-years-old on June 5.

When explaining her longevity, Hillard stated that her faith in the Lord is the reason she has lived for so long.

According to ABC Eyewitness News 11, “Hilliard spent decades teaching children. She was a teacher by trade and mentor by heart.”

As a passionate educator, Hillard taught in public school and at her church. Even at 106, she continues to motivate children to see the importance of school.

Though centenarian has trouble seeing, Hillard is still able to quote scripture. Her favorite Bible passage comes from Psalms 91:15-16.

“He will call on me, and I will answer him; I will be with him in trouble, I will deliver him and honor him. With long life I will satisfy him and show him my salvation.”

Hillard believes that God has used her life as a testament to this scripture.

The former educator has one son, three grandchildren, and one great-grandchild. She lives in an assisted living facility near Hampton County, where she celebrated her milestone birthday.

To commemorate Hillard’s life, the North Carolina House of Representatives sent her a certificate honoring her longevity.
