Bishop T.D. Jakes is launching a divinity school in 2020.

The announcement was made last week during Jakes’ Pastors and Leadership Conference in Tampa, Fla., and was accompanied by Facebook video last week. In the video, Dr. Antipas Harris, the president of the new divinity school, explained its mission.

“As the Potter forms the clay into a vessel of purpose, the vision at JDS is to form leaders for ministry and the church and society. Throughout more than 40 years of ministry, Bishop T.D. Jakes our founder and chancellor has poured of himself over millions of people around the world,” Antipas said. “He has a passion for equipping others to do the same. There remains much more mission work, pastor work, elder care, leadership and thought leading to be done.”

The school’s leaders say they have been led by the Holy Spirit to help usher people into ministry while they earn accredited degrees.

“The moral decay of our world is leading a generation on a spiritual search. The Holy Spirit sends out a clarion call for us to study deeper, understand more, bear witness greater, lead better and go further,” he said. “Through theological education and spiritual formation, we can meet the complexities of ministry for the 21st century. Jakes Divinity School is partnering with some of the nations outstanding institutions to offer fully accredited degrees.”

The school will officially launch in 2020. Antipas called for people to come forward so that Jakes’ team can help mold them into leaders.

“Jakes divinity school is uniquely positioned to provide experiential learning, rigorous scholarship and spiritual development. The Holy Spirit is calling you to respond to the global concerns of our contemporary society,” he said. “The world needs leaders and they’re waiting on you. So get ready as we launch Jakes Divinity School in 2020.”
