In a day and age where people can access almost anything with the help of a good Wi-Fi connection, God Friended Me actress Javicia Leslie is opening up about her love of streaming church services.

The 31-year-old Christian actress plays Ali Finer, the daughter of a preacher and sister of an atheist in the new hit CBS drama God Friended Me. In a conversation with Ambo TV, she spoke about the value of being able to watch church services online.

“We’re in that time and age where maybe you can’t go to your favorite church physically because it’s not in your area but now you can stream it,” she said. “It’s just as powerful.”

Leslie grew up in Maryland, where she attended the First Baptist Church of Glenarden before new leadership took over the church which was later named Mt. Zion. There, the actress’ faith was molded under the leadership of Pastor Keith Battle who she said knew how to connect with her as an entertainer.

“With Pastor Battle it kind of felt like being in the entertainment industry, he really got that. He did a great job of connecting what this industry is and also walking with Christ,” the actress revealed. “He brought in people like Meagan Good and DeVon Franklin and had them speak with us. I just felt like he stayed connected to the current culture. So it was really powerful.”

When Leslie moved to California to pursue her acting career, she still wanted to feel connected to her home church in Maryland. She got the opportunity to do that by streaming the services online.

“..Luckily with the internet, I was able to stream all of the services,” she said. “I would be in my car and I would just listen to them. It helped a lot.”

You can catch Javicia Leslie as Ali Finer on the new CBS series God Friended Me each Sunday at 8 p.m. Ambo TV will be releasing exclusive video interviews and articles about the God Friended Me series each Sunday.
