Last week HARRIET premiered nationwide to great success, grossing $12M during its opening weekend. Today, Cynthia Erivo, who portrays Harriet Tubman in the film, released an official music video for the theme song “Stand Up.”

The Broadway star wrote the song along with Joshuah Brian Campbell. The track, which was first released two weeks ago, plays over the end credits to the film, beautifully capturing the ethos of the film.

In a previous interview with IMDb, Erivo explained the creative process for the song.

“We both sort of came together to create something that fit me and fit him,” said the Emmy, Tony and Grammy award-winning actress. “We wrote the lyrics. We wrote some of the melody. And just made it what we felt was right and what was needed for our film. And luckily Kasi liked it.”

Based on the thrilling and inspirational life of an iconic American freedom fighter, HARRIET tells the extraordinary tale of Harriet Tubman’s escape from slavery and transformation into one of America’s greatest heroes and giants of the Christian faith. Her courage, ingenuity, tenacity and strong faith freed hundreds of slaves and changed the course of history.
