Tony Evans often prays for a number of people as the leader of Oak Cliff Bible Fellowship Church in Dallas, Texas. Now that his wife is battling cancer, the preacher is asking people to pray for her.

In a transparent Instagram post, Evans asked people to intercede for Lois.

“Friends, Please pray for my wife, Lois. Lois has been a cancer-free patient under care for a while,” he wrote. “However, her last routine scan revealed that her rare gallbladder cancer has returned. We need God to intervene as we continue our search for an effective treatment.”

In the midst of their health battle, Evans is trusting God.

“We are going to trust God in the dark for a solution, and we are asking you to fervently pray to that end,” he wrote.

The preacher acknowledged how shocking the news was and admitted how hard things have been.

“I’m sure this news about Lois is shocking.  It is shocking to us too,” he said. “In recent days, we have had quite a bit on us as a family as you know. My faith is being tested in a way I’ve never experienced… but I trust God.”

Still, the Evans family is finding strength in the Lord.

“I choose to believe — our whole family is choosing to believe that, even now, He knows what He is doing. Even during these uncertain times, we are strengthened by the joy of the Lord,” he wrote. “We know that we will be strengthened also by the prayers of the saints in the days to come.”

While some people may have questions, the pastor explained why this was not the best time to ask them.

“I’m sure you have questions. This news is fresh and we don’t have many answers to give,” he wrote. “We will keep you updated as we can. But as you wait — while we wait — we are asking for your prayers.

The Evans’ children also requested prayer on social media.

War Room actress Priscilla Shirer took to Instagram to ask people to keep her mother in their prayers. “Insta-family, this is my mom,” fellow preacher and author Shirer wrote. “Will you pray for her.”

Singer Anthony Evans, Jr. also reposted his father’s request for prayer on Instagram, adding, “🚨Please help me pray for our sweet mother and my dads wife of 50 years.”
