Here Are Two Reasons You Should Move More This May!

Did you know that May is National Physical Fitness and Sports Month? Every year, people around the country celebrate this month by focusing on fitness and increasing their activity levels.

Here are two reasons why you should too!

You Can Prevent Diseases

The rate of preventive diseases like type II diabetes, high blood pressure, and obesity are not only increasing but they’re impacting people at younger and younger ages.

The good news is, these can often be moderated or avoided by healthy lifestyle choices. That is why it’s important to start healthy patterns as soon as possible.

Just like becoming advanced in a career takes time and discipline, if you are equally as intentional about your health, you can develop healthy lifestyle patterns, such as exercising regularly. It is strongly recommended that adults get at least 2 hours and 30 minutes of moderate aerobic activity (brisk walking, casual bike ride) or 1 hour and 15 minutes of vigorous aerobic activity each week (heavy workout, running).

THAT’S NOT BAD! It’s totally obtainable if you add it into your schedule. Go to work… grocery store… exercise! You just have to make it a priority.

How You Treat Your Body Honors God

You may be wondering why a Christian network would choose to focus on physical fitness. But as Christians, we are called to be good stewards of our bodies.

The Bible specifically implores all of us to take care of our bodies. 1 Corinthians 6:19-20 reads, “Do you not know that your bodies are temples of the Holy Spirit, who is in you, whom you have received from God? You are not your own; you were bought at a price. Therefore honor God with your bodies.”

We only get one body for our entire lives; treat yours right! So get started today, whether that’s hitting the gym, joining a local sports league or maybe just taking a long walk in the morning, it all counts. Michelle’s Monthly Minute: Let’s start with… Stretching! Before starting any fitness activity, you want to make sure you stretch. At least 1 minute in the morning or the evening, doesn’t matter, just get it in!
