It’s that time of year when countless parents are receiving Christmas wish lists from their kids. Pastor Carl Lentz is looking at his own son’s list from a unique perspective.

In true preacher fashion, Lentz is using his son’s Christmas list to illustrate a relationship with God. Lentz took to Instagram to share a picture of his son’s list which he compared to the way people trust God with the things they ask for.

“My son’s ‘Xmas list’ is very cute! And it reminded me how simple things can be when you live from the ‘trust your dad’ perspective..VERY uncomplicated,” Lentz wrote. “Why not ask for things you clearly cant (sic) get by yourself? Why not dream out of the box?”

Lentz challenged people to ask God for help on their own proverbial lists while leaving room for God to provide what He believes is best.

“Why not be honest about where you want to get stronger and ask for help..(a pull up bar?! Amazing..)…and why not leave some things, open for God to fill in the blanks? Pressure, we cannot avoid,” he wrote. “But knowing how faithful God has already been? The peace that comes with it should be equally unavoidable.”

The pastor hammered his point home with a scripture to encourage people to have faith that God will provide instead of spending their time worrying.

“Jesus said it best in Matthew 6:25 ‘this is why I tell you not to worry about your life, for all that you need will be provided for…’ refuse to worry about tomorrow, but deal with each challenge that comes your way, one day at a time. Tomorrow will take care of itself,’” he shared in the social media message. “Don’t know who needs to hear this today, but hear it! God will provide…”
