Read it and Reap: You Are What You Eat pt 2
“Study to shew thyself approved unto God, a workman that needeth not to be ashamed, rightly dividing the word of truth.” ~II TIMOTHY 2:15 KJV
If you want to be a success in anything, be it in taking on a new career path, to even learning how to properly use your new washing machine, you take the time to study and read.
If you want to know how to properly program your new laptop you won’t read the manual for your car, and if you do read the manual for your car in expectation of being a wiz with your computer, guess again.
What you read, what you feed your mind and heart matters.
This is not to say at all, that reading for entertainment is bad. I write science fiction, which is sheer entertainment. But we still need to be picky readers and eaters if we want to be successful.
Some things we read will weigh us down. Others will distract us. And then there are those things that have the potential to convince us to throw in the towel altogether.
We need to make it a practice to read to feed our souls not starve them with empty calories that only lead to stagnation.
FINDING FOCUS IN THE WORD
Every Word of God was penned by Spirit-Inspired children of God for our benefit. These Words are the food for our Spirit and Body, the perfect mix of ingredients woven together to become the Bread of Life that we need in order to do Life His Way.
The Word of God is Wisdom for everyday life. It would behoove us to trust it and Him by reading, learning, and as a result, growing.
WHY THE EMPHASIS ON THE WORD
First, Christ is the Living Word, the Word made flesh. As His children, it only makes sense to Hear Him speak so that we can know Him and in knowing Him, know His Will and discover our truest identities and purpose by His design.
The truth is, what is in us will ultimately come out of us. If we are not being filled with the confidence that God is with us and for us, then confidence will not come out of us when we face the trials and tribulations that are sure to come as we pursue His calling upon our lives.
If we are reading content that constantly contradicts the vision that He has seeded in our hearts, what do you think will be the result?
The Word says in Romans, 10:17, “So then faith comes by hearing, and hearing by the word of God.”
Reading the Word, His every promise made to us, bolsters us and equips us for faith moves and action steps.
You cannot follow if you don’t know the way. You cannot prosper if you don’t know the plan. His Word is the map.
