Advent Communion Prayer
Every Advent celebration looks a little different for me, and I don’t usually follow a set devotional or Advent guide. What I like to do instead is turn over the whole celebration plans to Jesus and ask Him to tell me what we should focus on.
So in sharing one of my resources, I want to show that Advent doesn’t need to fit in any box, and if you want a starting place to find lasting and meaningful aspects of celebration between you and Jesus, be encouraged to let Him lead. Mine is very different than a traditional celebration, yours may not be, so just ask Him to show you whatever songs, devotions, scripture passages, communion prayers etc work best for you, and see where He takes you!
The following Communion prayer is an adaptation of the prayer by Paul Keith Davis founder of White Dove Ministries, as found in this YouTube video.
Any and all prayers I use as a jumping off place as guided by the Holy Spirit and you may find yourself praying all the words and adding your own, or just glancing through and praying specific words you find meaningful.
Lord, this is Your body and Your blood. We come before You and we ask You to bless these elements. Lord Jesus, according to Your word, we are going to take Your body and Your blood and enter into covenant with You as we remember Your death, burial, and resurrection.
You deliver our lives from the pit. You crown our lives with loving kindness and compassion. You and only You Lord, satisfy our years with good things and You renew our youth like that of the eagle. Please bless these elements with that which You said and we receive as we take these into our body.
Lord, please release healing and restore our heart, mind, body, emotions, and strength. We believe Your word and attach our faith to Your word that an actual transaction is taking place.
Father, please bless us, our seed, and our bloodlines. We here and now, speak and claim our destiny that You spoke forth when You created us to arise and be birthed and bear fruit for Your Kingdom.
May Your purpose and calling be brought to its fullness in us, our spouse, our seed and our bloodlines. May we accomplish the task You’ve sent us here to accomplish. And we ask You to release angels to take change over us and protect us as we fulfill Your will over our lives.
We ask you to release virtue of communion and release resurrection power into our health, our finances, our marriages, and our relationships.
You said, Lord, that whosoever eats of Your flesh and drinks of Your blood abides in You and You in him. So, we take these elements trusting that we are in You and You are in us.
As we now take this bread, we remember and celebrate that You are the Bread that came down out of Heaven. Thank You for laying down Your life that we might live. Please bless this bread with new life, healing, resurrection power, and zoe life. (Eat)
Thank You, Lord, for being the living water that we never go thirsty. Thank You for shedding Your blood that we might live. We ask You, God, to bless the cup with the very lifeblood that was in Jesus. The new covenant is in Your blood and through our connection with Your blood, we are pardoned. (Drink)
Thank you, Father, for sending Your Son as a sacrifice in our place. And thank You, Jesus, for laying down Your life that we may live. We love You, honor You and praise You. In Jesus’ Name.
Amen!
