Oh You Fancy Huh? Check Out This Modern Christian Artist
Modern art can get weird and confusing. I have been to a gallery and witnessed a toilet filled with rusty nails in the corner of a huge space and was told repeatedly that it was a “powerful statement.”
Yeah, no. Not my thing, but I guess some people just like to compete over their pretentious need to be fancy to a fault.
But I digress.
As I was struggling to decorate my home office I knew two things, I wanted bright colors and I wanted my art to reflect my faith. In my hunt for eye candy, I came across Ivan Guaderrama. He’s a Mexican-born American artist that was saved by Jesus and spreads his testimony through art.
Already like him? Yup, me too! In his biography, he recounts the moment he felt the presence of the Holy Spirit.
“My wife (then girlfriend) and I attended a major Christian conference, which had a powerful worship ceremony. Something in me shifted at that moment. I felt the presence of the Holy Spirit in a way I will never forget,” he writes. “If you are not a follower of Jesus or a believer, let me take this moment to tell you there is no drug, no human relationship, no material purchase that could ever bring such an overwhelming peace. I opened my heart there and then, and my belief moved from a mental state to an emotional and spiritual state.”
If you’re an art fan, you will immediately notice his use of bright almost neon colors that are reminiscent of Andy Warhol and his “pop art” pallet. These pieces will draw anyone’s eye instantly and add a really cool splash of color to a dull monotone room. But most importantly, they reflect our Christian faith.
While some of Ivan’s original pieces are pricey, don’t worry. He has made most of his prints available online at affordable prices.
