CCM Singer Austin French Celebrates Son’s Adoption
Christian singer Austin French is sharing some heartwarming news. His adopted son Coleman has officially taken the last name, French.
The 24-year-old worship leader and contemporary Christian music artist has made a name for himself on singing competitions like ABC’s “Rising Star” and NBC’s “The Voice.” Now, he is excited to reveal that name has officially been passed down to two-year-old Coleman James, the son he and wife Joscelyn adopted.
“Say hello to Coleman James Austin French! Today this little squirt officially became a forever French,” he wrote on Instagram. “I’m so thankful I get to be his daddy. Happy adoption day Coleman!”

On Austin’s website, the singer goes in depth about Coleman’s adoption story. The French family was first introduced to Coleman when Joscelyn’s mom served as his foster parent who helped the little boy get out of a dangerous living situation.
While Austin and his wife instantly fell in love with the baby, the process took over a year. At one point, the foster care system told the singer and his wife that they would not be allowed to see the child again.
“We just honestly couldn’t understand why,” French said. “Why would God call us to love this little boy like our own son if we were never going to see him again?”
However, the family chose to worship through their trials and even came together to write Austin’s song “Wide Open.” Looking back at his trials, Austin realized that things changed when he submitted them to God.
“Fighting for that sweet little baby boy was the hardest thing we have ever walked through and was not a part of my plan, but I wouldn’t trade him for anything,” French said in a Christian Beat report. “Society teaches us that we hold the key to our destiny – that it’s up to us to make a life worth living, but I believe it’s the opposite. It’s when we lay our life down that we begin to discover the life God has for us.”
