TobyMac Issues Challenge For Individuals To Improve Race Relations

TobyMac

TobyMac is doing more than speaking up about race relations, he is challenging people to take steps that will lead to real change.

The genre blending recording artist, songwriter and record label executive born Toby McKeehan released his seventh album “The Elements” last week which reached No.2 on the iTunes overall album charts. On his latest project, Toby doesn’t shy away from addressing issues with race in the U.S.

In a recent interview, he challenged people to take individual steps that can improve race relations.

“All I’m asking is we wake up and open our eyes, and be a little more sensitive and a little more aware… It has to start with each individual. Individual change will lead to societal change,” McKeehan said in a Tennessean report this week.

According to the Christian singer-songwriter and rapper, he has been intentional about promoting diversity in his own personal and professional life for some time.

“My world is very diverse. From my family to my band, to the schools my kids go to, we purposely go out of our way to make sure that we’re living a life of diversity,” he said. “And I think that because of that, you become aware, and sensitive to what’s going on in society. I think that the biggest thing is there’s a lot of pain. If we look into our history, which I’ve been willing to do, I see that many things were taught to me, handed down to me, that were just wrong concerning race relations.”

TobyMac is currently gearing up to begin performing the new material on his album in January for his “Hits Deep” tour where he will be joined by Jeremy Camp, Jordan Feliz, Ryan Stevenson, We Are Messengers and Aaron Cole.
