Snoop Dogg is taking his love of gospel music to urban theater.

The rapper and actor announced that he would be embarking on a tour with fellow preacher’s kid and singer Tamar Braxton, along with director Je’Caryous Johnson for a musical called Redemption of A Dogg.

The semi-autobiographical musical will chronicle a character much like Snoop who has to choose between his fame and fortune or family and faith. The rapper revealed how excited he was to take part in the project.

“I’m excited to link up with my guy Je’Caryous Johnson on Redemption of a Dogg the stage play,” Snoop Dogg said in a statement released on the Je’Caryous Entertainment website. “Please believe you’ve never seen urban theatre like this! With my flavor and his expertise, we’re gonna bring the people an unmissable show. I can’t wait for everyone out there to see it!”

Earlier this year, Snoop tapped some of the most well known names in the gospel music industry to collaborate with him his sixteenth studio project called Bible of Love. While Snoop’s musical will feature some of his greatest hits, the Je’Caryous Entertainment website also revealed that it would feature some of the gospel music tracks from his latest record.

The album debuted at no. 1 on the Billboard US Gospel Albums chart where it stayed for seven weeks. Christian music acts like The Clark Sisters, John P. Kee, Tye Tribbett and Kim Burrell were featured on the album which was recently nominated for a Dove Award.

Some people have been critical of Snoop Dogg’s decision to release music in the gospel music space. However, Snoop has a message for his critics.

“If the church was full of saints it wouldn’t be right. So if you find someone trying to find their way back home, the natural thing to do is to be warm welcoming, open your arms and say ‘brother, we accept you for who you are and what you’re going through, come as you are..’’” he told TV One earlier this year. “‘…We know you’ve been doing wrong and you want to get right and we want to help you get right. We’re not gonna’ throw stones on you when you’re trying to get right and walking back into the church house.”

He went on to add, “that’s what’s running people out the church right now as we speak.”

Snoop’s tour is hitting major cities around the U.S. like Brooklyn, Houston, Philadelphia, D.C. and Chicago. For more information please visit https://jecaryous.com.
